We remember David Kittredge (M.F.S. ‘80 and Ph.D. ‘86 with a specialization in silviculture) who passed away on March 13th, 2020. Dave was a dear member of the Yale and New England forestry communities. He served as a faculty member of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst Department of Environmental Conservation for 30 years in the roles of professor, mentor, researcher of forest owner attitudes and forest policy, and Massachusetts Extension Forester. Before his passing, the Academics for Land Protection (ALPINE) in New England honored his work and dedication with the Charles H.W. Foster Award for Exemplary Academic Leadership in Conservation for his achievements in convening community members, sharing science and technical expertise, skilled listening to forest owners, and the creation of “Woodland Councils.” In remembrance, Dave requested that friends, classmates, and colleagues spend time in the woods or engaging in other outdoor activities. Please find his thoughtful obituary here.
