Janice Burns – Coordinator, Special Programme for Development of Capacities (SPDC), International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO)
Janice Burns is Coordinator of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) Special Programme for Development of Capacities (SPDC) and serves as Partnerships and Initiatives Coordinator at IUFRO Headquarters in Vienna. She works to strengthen global partnerships, build capacity and connect science, policy and practice across the international forest sector. Burns holds a Master of Science in European Forestry. She joined IUFRO Headquarters in 2016 and has played a leading role in developing partnerships, thematic networks and capacity-building initiatives that support forest science worldwide. Her professional experience includes remote sensing, fire management, forest landscape restoration, forest education and wood policy, as well as previous roles as a professional wildland firefighter and aviation coordinator in Canada.
