Tribal Forestry: Understanding Current Issues and Challenges
May 27, 2025YFF welcomed over 3,500 registered attendees to the speaker series “Tribal Forestry: Understanding Current Issues and Challenges” in spring 2024. The series focused on the history of forest stewardship on tribal lands in North America, federal laws and tribal forestry, contemporary uses of plants and wildlife stewardship, fire, conclusions from the Indian Forest Management Assessment (IFMAT), tribal co-management, and the future of tribal forestry in the face of climate change. The series was co-developed and co-hosted by The Forest School and the Yale Center for Environmental Justice at Yale School of the Environment, and Salish Kootenai College.
Understanding Climate-Smart Forestry in Practice
July 11, 2024YFF welcomed over 2,800 registered attendees to the speaker series “Understanding Climate-Smart Forestry in Practice” in fall 2023. The series focused on unpacking diverse definitions of “climate-smart” forest management and understanding how to implement these practices on forestlands throughout the U.S. The series was jointly hosted by The Forest School at the Yale School of the Environment, the USDA Northeast Climate Hub, and the USDA Southeast Climate Hub, and co-sponsored by the Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture.
What Makes a High-Quality Forest Carbon Credit?
April 22, 2024In fall 2022, YFF welcomed over 800 registered attendees to the speaker series “What Makes a High-Quality Forest Carbon Credit?” The series focused on forest carbon credits in the United States, including project development, the function of the voluntary carbon market, and the sale and use of credits as offsets. The series was organized by The Forest School at the Yale School of the Environment, Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture, and Yale Applied Science Synthesis Program.
(Re)Considering Planted Forests for the 21st Century
January 19, 2024In fall 2022, YFF hosted the speaker series “(Re)Considering Planted Forests for the 21st Century.” The series focused on large-scale planted forests for fiber and wood products in the context of climate change, innovation, and meeting society’s various needs. The series was organized by The Forest School at the Yale School of the Environment and The Forests Dialogue.
Smallholder Planted Forests and Trees for Climate, Restored Landscapes, and Livelihoods
November 6, 2023In the spring of 2023, the Yale Forest Forum (YFF) brought together over 1,300 registered attendees for the webinar speaker series “Smallholder Planted Forests and Trees for Climate, Restored Landscapes, and Livelihoods.” The series, which ran from January through April 2023, was hosted in collaboration between The Forest School at the Yale School of the Environment and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
