A University Model for Clinical Urban Community Forestry Training

An overview of one clinical training program’s approach to educating the next generation of urban community foresters. Caroline will reflect on her experience managing URI’s GreenSkills tree planting and green jobs program as well as her research into the impact of URI’s model of urban and community forestry clinical education. She will focus on essential social forestry tools and competencies and discuss how URI interns put these tools into practice.
Speaker Biography
Caroline (Caro) is an urban forester and ISA certified arborist originally from the San Francisco, CA. She graduated from the Yale School of the Environment in 2018 and fell in love with New Haven while working for URI as a graduate student. Previous to receiving her Master of Forestry, Caro taught elementary school in the San Francisco Bay Area, ran a school garden program, worked on urban farms, and built large wooden structures with children at the San Francisco Tinkering School.
