An Evolving and Maturing Voluntary Carbon Market: Practical Implications and Opportunities in IFM

The voluntary carbon market is coalescing around expectations of quality in improved forest management (IFM) carbon projects. New methodologies offer ever increasing precision and detail in regard to setting IFM baselines and reassessing them over time. This panel will discuss recent innovations in IFM and opportunities and challenges for landowners and market participants.   

 

Speaker Biographies

Julius Pasay – Executive Director, The Climate Trust

Julius Pasay oversees operations and investments at The Climate Trust to effectively deliver carbon project funding and management to landowner partners that support their land stewardship goals. Prior to joining The Climate Trust, Pasay served as the Forest Manager for Yale Forests and was a U.S. Fulbright scholar in France investigating climate-smart agroforestry techniques. Pasay is a Certified Forester and holds an M.F. from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and a B.S. in Environmental Science from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. 

Kurt Krapfl  Forestry Director, American Carbon Registry

Kurt Krapfl is Director of Forestry at American Carbon Registry where he has worked in carbon market implementation, methodology development, and on technical and policy aspects of the carbon market for nearly a decade. At ACR, a globally recognized carbon crediting program operating in compliance and voluntary markets, Krapfl oversees the implementation of ACR’s nature-based carbon portfolio as well as the development and publication of innovative methodologies related to improved forest management, afforestation and reforestation, active conservation, and wetland and grassland restoration. Krapfl's primary areas of expertise are forest carbon quantification, inventory and sampling design, forest resource management, and silviculture. Krapfl earned a Ph.D. in Forest Management from Mississippi State University and M.S. and B.S. degrees in Forestry from Southern Illinois University.
