Steve Marshall

This presentation explores why mass timber matters today. Mass timber is a family of related wood products, the most widely known of which is cross laminated timber. These products, where we are today in their use, the basis for their expanded use, and their potential for addressing sustainability will be described.

Speaker Biography

Steve Marshall is the Founder of Mass Timber Strategy where he helps others deliver the sustainable benefits of mass timber construction at a large scale.  To achieve that Steve works with business, government, and non-profit entities.  His career has included 42-years in various roles with the U.S. Forest Service.  During his last 10 years with the agency Steve oversaw its wood products market development work.  This included the creation of the Wood Innovations Program and more than 100 grants supporting the development of the United State’s mass timber sector.  Upon retiring from the federal government in 2020 Steve joined SmartLam North America for a little more than a year prior to founding Mass Timber Strategy. He is based in Washington, DC.
